It would be impossible to overstate the importance of master drummer Elvin Jones in the evolution and current mainstream jazz. Elvin followed older brothers Hank and Thad onto the Detroit jazz scene, where all forged eminent careers. By the Mid- 1960s he was playing with Coltrane's groundbreaking quartet, and was looked to by musicians who wanted to know was where jazz headed and to feel how deep the human spirit it could still reach.
Today Elvin Jones stills plays with thunderous power, leading to generations of players that come out smokin' and go from there. Veterans Sonny Fortune and Chip Jackson brilliantly orchestrate the power of the drums; while young confreres saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and pianist Willie Pickins, dig in and scale the sheer rockface of their mentors' unyielding energy.
V.I.E.W. Video takes you into the volcanic heart of jazz, with a multi-generational band that is keeping the faith and developing the musicians who will safeguard it into the future.
